It was another routine day for Phil and Tom. They won their quarterfinal match this afternoon 6-0, 6-1. Phil said he played well and felt good on the court. I've said many times before that he is his own worst critic, so I know he is feeling good when he says so himself. Makes me smile.
Phil has been indecisive about racquets lately. In his mind he wants to (actually he has been) trying different racquets...experimenting with head sizes, weight and balance. But when it comes to tournament time he always falls back to his old racquets. These are frames he's used for the better part of 10 years maybe? He has confidence in his play and feel for the ball with these older racquets. I go with the leave well enough alone theory. Keep using the old frames until....whenever. Granted, Wilson stopped making those racquets a long time ago, but until you just have to make a change, go with what's been working for you. I guess we're all just creatures of habit. I like the fact that his confidence is high. As a player that is more than half the battle!
Anyway....Phil and Tom play their semifinal match tomorrow afternoon. The matches get tougher now. Tom is playing singles as well, and has a singles match in the morning before the doubles in the afternoon. Phil has had the chance to catch up with some college buddies of his from years ago. He loves connecting and reconnecting with old friends. I'm so happy he has the opportunity to see these guys.
I'm ready for Phil to come home, but I want him to first finish his mission.
