Well, I had hoped and wished for a better result today in the finals for Phil and Tom, but it didn't turn out that way. They lost 6-0, 7-5. In talking to Phil after the match, I know he was disappointed in the loss, but I sensed he was encouraged by his play and his fight. To me, that makes the whole week a winning success. In the past year of playing tournaments he has been fighting nerves and confidence. He still doesn't feel he is where he wants to be, but I know he is not completely disappointed in how the week played out.
Now I'm ready for him to come home! It will be a long day of flying for him and I know he'll be tired. But Ellie and I will be there with bells on to pick him up.
I am so hopeful that the doctor gives me the go ahead to get back on my feet. It's time for me to get back in action.
Phil's next event is the Gordon Cup, which is a US vs Canada competition. This year the event will be played in Cleveland. It is just a two day tournament of team singles and doubles. Phil is the captain of the 65's team and has put together some good players to represent. I'll give some quick updates on his play in Cleveland in late July.
