Phil's 65 Hardcourt National's kind of snuck up on me. I knew he was playing in Irvine in June, but how did June get here so quickly? First it was Easter and April, then it was the end of April and I had my surgery. May never happened. And all the sudden it's June 10th.
Late this morning Ellie and I took Phil to the airport, in a driving rain storm, to fly to Atlanta. There he met up with Tom and together they are flying on to Irvine. It's a long flight, and certainly not a trip Phil looks forward to. But once he gets there, gets some rest, hits on the hardcourts and gets in the tournament atmosphere, he'll be good to go. He was in Columbus last weekend for a short trip to see kids and grandkids. He returned with a crud of some sort and has been hacking and feeling yucky all week. It has been an usually rainy, stormy week but Phil was able to get some much needed rest and also find time to play between rain storms.
I feel good about the way Phil is playing. He chose to just play doubles this week. Although hard courts is his favorite playing surface, he is going to wait to play singles in the grass court and indoor nationals. He and Tom are seeded second and play their first match on Wednesday.
I am still on the road to recovery from my scar revision surgery. The incision wound is verrry slooowww to heal. It has been 6 week so far. 6 weeks of not walking. 6 weeks of having to cover my foot everytime I shower. The first two or three weeks, not so bad. Now I'm pulling my hair out. This too shall pass for me, and better days are ahead.
I'm waiting to hear from Phil that he arrived in Irvine ok. Then Ellie and I will relax knowing he is safe and settled. I just hope is feeling better from his crud.
Once he starts match play on Wednesday I'll post results.
