Better Late Than Never

I'm a week behind in writing this post. I blame it in one of 3 things....laziness, forgetfulness and work.

Phil just completed and won a category ll national this weekend played here in Naples. He only played doubles and played with good friend, and longtime, (sometimes) partner from Columbus, Neal Newman.

They haven't played together in a while, but have had great success in the past. Moving into the older age divisions and mobility (or lack there of) has become more of an issue. It has made their partnership less effective. However, they still make a formidable team.

Phil is having some "new knee" issues. He tweaked it while playing this week and especially during the finals match. Having said all that, Phil and Neal won 6-4, 6-4.

I was able to watch part of his semifinal win, which he played really well. The final was tough to watch because he was hobbling around so much. Fortunately the opposing team didn't use a great strategy against Phil and Neal. So despite the bad afternoon sun and Phil's injury, Neal and Phil were able to win 6-4, 6-4.

His next tournament is at the end of this month in St. Petersburg. Hoping that a few days rest with ice, and a visit to the doctor will put him back on track again.

I'm so proud of Phil and the perseverance and grit he has when he plays. That's what champions are made of.

I'm glad I got this post in. More to come soon! Better late than never!
