Said and Done

It's been a fantastic week of tennis, fun and fellowship in Austin. As I've said many times before, we travel to some really great cities, but never do we have the opportunity to see the sites and take in the local culture. By the time you've spent a full day at the courts, either watching or playing, the only thing want to see is a shower, meal and a bed. That happens day after day, night after night. Before you know it the week is over, and it's time to go home.

We awoke to heavy rains and thunderstorms this morning. It seemed the likely hood of Phil playing at 9:00 was slim to none. We arrived at the courts around 8:00 and as predicted the courts were wet, as the rains continued. We hung around talking to other players to pass the 3 hour time delay. The skies finally cleared, the courts dried and the matches went on around 11:45.

Not knowing exactly what time his match was going to start, made pre match planning a little difficult for Phil. When do you eat, when do you stretch?? Before he knew it, it was time to go on. Dave is a good player and because he is very mobile, it makes him a double threat. And because he is an all around nice guy...makes him a triple threat!

Phil did not play bad at all today. Between the great workouts we had prior to the tourney and the match play of nine other matches dung the week, he couldn't have been more prepared. Today Dave was a littler fresher,
moved a little better and was a little sharper. He won 6-2, 6-1. Phil left all he had on the court today and throughout the whole week. He had no more left in the tank. He was spent.

Our goals for this trip were met. Fun getaway, great tennis and made new friends. We had wonderful and gracious hosts who opened up their home and made us feel very welcomed. Thanks Marvin and Marie!

Tomorrow we head home, very early. Time to get back, heal up, practice up, and look forward to the next adventure. Phil ( maybe me too ) will be flying to Irvine, CA to play just doubles in the national hard courts in mid June. He and Tony make a really good team.

They're off to a great start....now that it's all said and done.
