Black and Blue

Phil played an opponent today that he had never played before. The scouting report was this guy will drive you crazy because he is scary fast, and hits the ball with no pace. Phil's worse nightmare of an opponent. It took Phil a few games to figure him out, and I have admit that when Phil was down 1-3 in the first set I got a little worried...sweaty palms, etc...

Much to Phil's credit, he was able to contain his frustration, turn it into positive energy and reel off about nine straight games. Then and only then was I able to relax and know that Phil was cruising on to victory. It was a pretty tough 6-3, 6-2 win. It is another match under Phil's belt that allows him to see different styles of play. This is all part of the return back to singles play....so proud of him! Tomorrow he plays his singles final at 9:00 a.m. He plays Dave Seviertson who he partnered successfully with at the Sterling Oaks tournament to win the doubles. Now they will be opponents in singles. I am looking forward watching how they play and figure out each other's games. Phil has played 9 matches in 4 days. Hopefully he can hold out for just one more!

This afternoon Phil and Tony won their doubles final! I counted up that Phil has won 5 of the last 5 doubles tournaments he has entered played in since December of 2015. Pretty impressive I'd say. He has won with mostly different partners. The one common denominator is him. One of the best doubles players I've ever seen.

I am still wobbling around. Now I have pretty significant bruising around my hip area which is usually the sign of a tear. What the tear is, is yet to be determined. I'll wait until we get home to check it all out. My main concern is to help Philly get through his singles final tomorrow.

Until them I'll just remain black and blue. But putting all my faith into a victory for Phil.
