Well, it's been a battle between me and my left hip for a while. I don't like to talk about it too much because I feel like I can suppress it enough to will the pain away. Not this time. I have inflamed it enough that I can not move more than a step to the left or right, nor push off without causing extreme pain that radiates down through the top of my left thigh. That makes playing tennis nearly impossible.
I've been stretching and rolling, but nothing gives me relief. We lost our mixed match 6-3, 6-4. It was close and on another day it would be no contest. We (I) came to Austin to mainly get back in the tournament scene and to get a few matches in. Mission accomplished for that. I felt guilty for keeping Phil on the court after he had already played two other matches on the same day. Luckily those matches have been routine. The cloud cover did break today and the heat and humidity spiked quickly. Many players were struggling with the very warm conditions. Finding viewing spots to watch the matches were at a premium.
Phil now plays the semifinals of singles tomorrow and finals of the doubles. He seems to be playing better and better with each match that passes. Confidence and experience comes from playing in tournaments with pressure situations. It's a game with mental and physical force. I have so missed that in that pass couple of years. Silly me!
We are here until early Tuesday morning. We have reconnected with many friends, and continue to make new ones! This is what we do and we enjoy doing this together.
Looking forward now to watching Phil play and cheering him on to victory.
Hip Hip Hurray!
