I'll See You In a Year

When Dr. Guerra told Phil "I'll see you in a year", I think we both were stunned. We both were thinking like maybe six weeks, 3 months...but a whole year!???  WOW!  That's awesome!  But that's kudos to Phil for all the time and hard work he has put into his rehab. He has been diligent about going to PT.  He has been diligent about doing his home PT on his off days. AND he has been diligent about icing and staying off the court as ordered by Dr. Guerra.  The last week or so I have seen the glint in his eye...I can see him wanting more than ever to be out there hitting balls and sweating.

In due time it will come. He timed is recovery perfectly with his shoulder surgery return and he will do the same with his knee return.  No matter what anyone says..."oh you should be out there by now", "I was out hitting in 3-4 weeks", blah blah blah blah...it doesn't matter.  Phil has a return schedule in mind and will stick with it. No one knows his body better than him.  He will do it on his own terms. For that I respect him and have had fun watching him whine and moan all the way through it!! (not really)  He's been a great patient. Except he does crack me up every time I put  ice on his knee and he cringes and says, "ewww that's cold"...like he's expecting frozen ice packs to be something different each time!! :))

We now are focusing our attention away from work (season is over-yea!!) and away from Phil's knee (he's doing so well (yea!!) and putting it all on our our new house!  We closed yesterday.  Today we met with the contractor who took some initial measurements, as we start the process of doing some renovations.  There will be flooring changes, counter top changes, paint color changes, a bathroom redone, and possibly a wall removed. This should occupy our time and minds for a while. Because this is our first purchased home together we are so excited! We expect to be in by mid to late June. There is a beautiful enclosed lanai with a pool that we both are looking forward to using. It will be good physical therapy for Phil and good mental therapy for me!
