Fran and I warmed up early this morning for her singles match only to find out her opponent withdrew due to injury. So we had until 3:00 before we played our doubles. There were a lot of good matches to watch, so we hung around for most of the morning before heading out to lunch. Fran and I are pretty routine oriented when it comes to our meals while staying together...breakfast at the hotel, lunch at Panera, and dinner at Brio. Same meals at the same places. It just works for us!
Anyway, our 3:00 doubles match finally went on around 3:45. After splitting the first two sets and having the lights turned on, we finished about 3 hours later on the wrong side of a 7-6 in the third set. The tiebreaker score was 8-6. We had a match point in the breaker and I missed an easy sitter...I cost us the match. UNBELIEVABLE. I am so upset with myself. Everyone can say all the cliches, and do all the consoling they want. Bottom line is, I cost us the match. An easy high forehand volley. At one point in my life I could make those in my sleep. I guess that is what is so frustrating.
Good news is Phil won. He and Larry play their finals tomorrow. The big tournament is next week at Sterling Oaks. There will be lots of players registered for that one!
Even bigger news is that the 2.5 team I am coaching won today! Congrats girls!
Tomorrow is a new day. A very wise coach and husband has told me many a time....the best of athletes have to have a short memory. All though losses like this hurt to the core, somehow you find a way to fight back.
UNBELIEVABLE, but better than where I was 3 months ago.
