Cell Phone Lot

I'm sitting in the cell phone lot at the Ft. Lauderdale airport waiting for my doubles partner, Fran, to arrive. I haven't made this trip in a while, so naturally I'm early.

Ever since Fran called in late August to ask if I'd play this week in the 50 Clays, I've been pretty calm and collected. I feel like I've gone through all the right training steps to not only prepare, but to also not get injured while preparing! There have been the 6 am fitness bootcamps, three days a week. Doing doubles specific drills with Phil. Going up to Clearwater a couple of weekends to play doubles with some friends to put it all to use. I have to say, the drilling was pretty good, the playing....not always so good. Tears aplenty, trust me! It just goes to show how important match play really is.

Calendar wise, I've been out of tournament play for 2 years. My last event was the Intersectionals in Texas in 2012. I came home after that, made it through the season teaching and had wrist surgery in the spring. Then came the stroke in late August of 2013. So when I balance out that I've been away for 24 months and back playing for only 2 months it puts it all better perspective for me. I have to expect to go through some tough times.

All I'm expecting this week is to have fun. I so appreciate of the encouragement from Fran for asking me to play. I also appreciate the love and belief that Phil has shown to me in getting me ready!

Play for us starts mid week. That will give us time to get in some practice sets and hang out with the girls.
