Heading Home

Our last couple of days in Seattle were spent watching final matches of both singles and doubles. For 60+ year olds these guys can really play! Both the singles final and play off for 3 & 4 looked like pro tennis....ok that might be a stretch, but the movement, the shot making and the ability of these guys was unbelievable! A healthy, fit Phil can be right in the mix with all of them. The doubles final was fun to watch too. The team that beat Phil and Bob won the final.

I know Phil is very disappointed that he came so far to only play 3 matches, 2 of them being easy "scrub" matches. And he is more disappointed about withdrawing from the singles. His knee was in no condition to play a national level tournament. In fact he may have made it worse by playing. The swelling in and around his knee grew worse no matter how much he iced or stayed off it. Dr. Spain will see him on Monday afternoon, and he'll make a game plan from there.

We both decided that this was one of our best tennis trips ever! Despite the injury, we were in a city we'd never been in, played at a club we've never been to, and made new friends. How awesome is that? We were about as far away from work as we could be, which was a great relaxer for both of us. Our fall/winter season is fast approaching, so the luxury of taking trips like this will be coming to a quick end! Dave managing the shop and Rick doing the courts gives us peace of mind to leave and not think twice about being away. Thanks guys!

Phil was planning to play the grass court nationals in New York next month, but now feels doubtful about that. I think a lot of depends on what the doctor says tomorrow.

Believe it or not, I have decided to play doubles only in the national clay courts in West Palm Beach in October. It's time to get back out there. Enough said.

Phil and I have decided that we will name this coming year the "come back year" for both us. We both vow to come back healthier, fitter, injury free and ready to play.

Even though we have both played high level tennis in the past, we feel like our best tennis is yet to come!
