Phil and Bob's semifinal match started with a bang. They were playing #1 seeds Paul Wulf and Lenny Wofford from Oregon. Phil and Bob got an early break and went up 4-1 quickly. Phil showed no sign of his knee bothering him. Slowly, they gave the break back and lost the set 6-4. I could see Phil's movement deteriorating as the match wore on. I felt so bad for him. At 2-2 in the second set, Phil/Bob had a few break points on a pivotal game that they could not convert. Losing that game took some air out of their sails and they couldn't seem to recover from that. They lost the match 6-4, 6-2.
Post match, Phil iced his much swollen knee. He was, as expected, very disappointed that he was not healthy enough to play at his best. Injuries have hampered his whole year of play. I know we can get him through this and get him back playing strong again. The jury is still out if he will play the doubles play off for 3 & 4 tomorrow. We'll go in tomorrow so Phil can warm Bob up for his singles semi finals.
We'll have tomorrow and Saturday to finish up our visit in Seattle, then back home on Sunday!
