Phil and I arrived in Cleveland around 12:30 today, after a fairly routine 2:30 hour drive from Columbus. We did a quick check in at the hotel, dropped our bags, then headed to the Cleveland Racquet Club. Phil checked in, introduced me to some of his tennis buddies I hadn't yet met (which is hard to believe there are any left in this world that I haven't!....he knows soooooo many people around this world!), then I went off to play doubles with some friends of mine, whose husbands or significant others are playing this weekend as well. I had fun, although my confidence level and match game are not up to standard yet. Still it was fun playing, and I hope to continue improving. Phil played with some of his USA teammates as they prepared for their matches tomorrow.
The highlight of the day for me was seeing some of my old Hidden Dunes winter guests (old as in LONG TIME, not old as in OLD!!!) the Davidsons drove in from Midland, MI, the Brays and Websters came in from Canada to play, and Mary Jane Schmidt who lives here stopped by. Tomorrow will be even better when we see Tarpon Cove members the Richmans and LaRichs.
It was great catching up on everyone and everything!
There was a cocktail and players dinner tonight, which was nice. The matches start tomorrow morning and and go throughout the day. The Midwest is in a sweltering heat wave and but expected to break on Saturday. The humidity is not south Florida like, but the heat is pretty intense.
Looking forward to a fun day of tennis!
