Next Round

Today Phil played a friend of his from California, Craig Allison. I was able to talk to him briefly before he went on. He seemed confident, which I'm always glad to hear. Hearing that confidence in his voice, takes away from my worrying too much. I was pretty busy at work today with teaching and playing myself, so I didn't have time to watch the clock and wonder what was going on every second of the time I knew he was out there. I was glad to get the call from Phil that he won 6-3, 6-3 in cooler, windier conditions.

Tomorrow's round of 16 match will be a bit of a revenge match. Phil lost to this guy in one of his first event's back, earlier this spring. It was a really hot, muggy day, and Phil was nowhere near the fitness level that he is now. He lost in three sets, and afterwards, when I got him home, he went into full body cramps...pretty scary. Phil never forgets a loss, and rarely loses to the same guy twice. If I were his opponent tomorrow, I'd be afraid, very afraid.
