Phil has been in Atlanta for a couple of days getting prepared to play the national clay courts. He is staying with and playing doubles with good friend Armistead Neely. Armie is one of Phil's favorite practice partners...he hits such a good ball, and loves to practice and drill. In talking to Phil the last couple of days I can tell he is relaxed and feeling good about the upcoming tournament.
The draw is big, and the field is deep with good players. Phil is seeded third and had a bye yesterday in the first round. Today he played his first match and won easily, 6-2,6-0. Then in typical Phil and Armie fashion, they went to practice for another hour or so. They are seeded fourth in doubles, mainly because they have not played together before. Otherwise they would be seeded higher. I like the draws that Phil has in singles and doubles. He'll be tested, but I've got a good feeling about this week too.
