Team Florida had success yesterday against the Midwest Section. They won all three singles and both doubles matches, sweeping for the win. Phil won his singles match 6-3, 6-3, and he and his partner, Gewan Maharaj, won their doubles match as well.
Today's final match against the Southern section, actually started yesterday afternoon. At the conclusion of the doubles matches with Midwest, there was an hour break, then only the doubles was played against Southern. Knowing this was going to be a very difficult match, Phil and Larry Turville teamed back up to take on the formidable team of Tom Smith and Marty Pearson. Phil and Larry pulled it out 6-4, 6-4. Phil said he played the best doubles he's played in quite some time. It's so great to hear the familiar confidence back in Phil's voice when he is talking about his tennis! The other doubles duo from Team Florida won their match against Southerns as well, putting them up 2-0 going into the singles this morning. Florida only needs one singles win to clinch the match. I like their chances!
The most difficult part of the day for me is staying up late tonight to meet Phil's midnight arriving flight! I'm looking forward to him coming home, and especially looking forward to hitting some balls this week to test out my wrist!
I'll post the singles results with Southerns later today.
