Win Some, Lose Some

There was a three hour rain delay yesterday that backed all the matches up. The sun came out and Phil went on around 12:15 for his originally scheduled 9:00 match. His opponent could be a potential nightmare to play on clay. His style didn't match up well for Phil...high loopy shots, doesn't allow his opponent to find a rhythm. Phil knew he needed to attack and be aggressive. I knew from the first game Phil served that he was going to play well, and he did. He won the first set 6-3 and got up in the second. I had flashbacks of me losing my match a couple of weeks ago after being up, and I so wanted Phil to hurry up and close out the match. Serving at 5-4, Phil came up with some big shots and big serves to win the match. Throughout the whole match I had a three ring circus going on in my in my stomach and heart! I get so nervous watching. I have to do better. I know Phil was relieved to get through that round, as was I! In the semis now, he plays his doubles partner, Bob Litwin. Bob is a good lefty, from New York that Phil has played a couple of times before. Like Phil, Bob is returning to competitive play after surgery (hip). It will be a good match and I'll be right there playing every single point!

Late yesterday afternoon, Phil and Bob played their first round doubles match. They started out great and handily won the first set 6-1. Fatigue started to set in a bit, and the opponents picked up their games. The second set went to a tiebreaker where they lost a close one 8-6. They had a disappointing third set and lost the match 6-3 in the third. Surprising loss after being in such control. To their opponents credit, they came up with some unbelievable shots at opportune times. Nine out of ten times Phil and Bob would beat these guys. It was a tough way to end a day that started so well.

Today Phil will focus on his singles and give it all he has.
