Phil's first singles match back was a good one. He played William King, one of the original (and still performing) Commodores. William can be a streaky player, coming up with big shots randomly. Phil came out focused and determined. Overall he played well and won 6-1, 6-2. I know it was a big relief for him to get through this first round. Tomorrow's match will be a bit tougher. His opponent plays a style that Phil will have to be patient with and attack when he can. I have a good feeling that he'll be ready.
Last night we did something we NEVER do, especially at a tournament. Our friend Bob Steinmetz, from Destin, had a couple of extra tickets to see the group the Eagles in an outdoor amphitheater. We went to the show, and WOW, was it great! You forget how many big hits the Eagles have had over the course of time. Every song they played was a great song that the crowd went crazy for. We had fantastic seats up close and enjoyed the whole experience. Because the Eagles music spans over a 40 year period, there was a wide range in the age among the concert goers.
I've been able to get a couple of good hits in to prepare for my upcoming tournament. I'm looking forward to playing again. For now though, I'm looking forward to cheering Phil on through the rest of his matches.
