Day Two

Interesting singles match today. Somehow I managed to pull out a win by playing a 3/4's of a match with absolutely no forehand....and I mean balls bouncing on my side before they even got to the net, or when I did decide to hit out, the ball would hit the back fence. Fortunately for me, Ann's serve was as bad as my forehand, and I got a lot of free points from her double faults. Ann mixed up her shots and gave me no rhythm to get grooved. It was an ugly 6-3, 6-4 victory, but I guess a win is a win. Fran and I played well in our doubles this afternoon and won 6-2, 6-0.

Tomorrow I play Fran in the quarters of the singles. I feel comfortable playing her, and feel confident that we will have a good match. I just want to hit the ball like I know I can and play with confidence and purpose. We are in the quarters of doubles too. We would be playing the number one seeds, but due to injury they had to drop out, which left our side of draw wide open. We need to play well and focused and see where it takes us!

I'm having a great time here. Fran and I are very compatible roomies and are pretty much on the same eating, practicing and sleeping schedule. La Jolla is a beautiful area. The weather is a little cooler than I expected. The "May Gray" hangs around until about 10:00, then the sun burns through and turns into a beautiful day. The club is right on the beach and provides a picturesque view from the courts. How blessed am I to be here playing tennis!
