Day One

Fran and I got an early start to breakfast, then headed back to get a practice court to warm up on. I was unusually calm before my match today. I've been trying to adopt a better mental state. It's no fun going onto the court so nervous you can't enjoy playing the match, and today I enjoyed playing the match. I knew absolutely nothing about my opponent. During the warm up and early in the match I discovered some weaknesses. I served better than I have been, not great, but much improved, I moved well, and I played without the fear of missing. What a difference! I won 6-1, 6-1. The score is a little deceiving because we had some long points, and games, especially toward the end of the match. Overall I was very happy with my first match, more because of how I played, than the win. Tomorrow I play a good player from California. I'll go in with the same mindset as I did today. Fran and I play our first doubles match tomorrow. Survived day one!
