Today didn't quite turn out as Fran and I had hoped or planned. Our daily routine of early to rise, early breakfast at Harry's Coffee Shop, early hit, and back to the room to prepare for our daily matches, all before 7:30 didn't change. I watched the match of which I play winner of, (Erin Boynton), then warmed Fran up again for a few minutes. I was able to sit court side during Fran's match. She played a tough match, but came up short and lost 6-4, 6-0 to Tracy Houk, a good player from Northern Cal.
I felt like I was ready to go in the doubles, and looked forward to playing. I warmed my body up, and got a good tape job on my wrist. Once our match started it was like a runaway train that we couldn't jump on. Before we knew it we were down 6-0, 1-0. We finally got on the board, but still couldn't find our way around the court and lost the second 6-2. It all seemed to happen so fast. I can't remember the last time I lost so many sets 6-0. Very humbling to say the least!
The bright note to the day was having Tarpon Cove members Marilyn and Jamie Martin, who happened to be in La Jolla, come to watch us play. I hated they had to see such a horrible match, but very grateful they made such an effort to come watch! The Martins are just one example of the great members we have at our club who support our playing. I can always count on Marilyn and Jamie to be court side when playing an exhibition or tournament at home. I only wish I could have played better for them today!
I play Erin at 8:00 tomorrow morning, then Fran plays her third place playoff match at 10:00. Our doubles playoff is scheduled for 3:30. Another full day of tennis. My wrist is hurting again, and I'm trying to keep up with it through icing and Aleve. I'll do the best I can!
