The rains cleared, but the winds stayed in Palm Springs today. Tom played and won his semifinal singles match this morning, and now will be playing in the singles finals tomorrow. Phil and Tom played a very good team in their semifinal doubles match this afternoon. I knew they were scheduled to play around 2:15 pst (which is 5:15 est). I started getting worried after about the 2 hour mark when I hadn't heard from him. Finally the phone rang around 7:35 and I was scared to answer! Good news, they won, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1. Phil said that he and Tom were flat and awful the first set, and still had opportunities to win the set. After losing the first set, they got an early break and rode it to take the second set. Then he said he and Tom caught on fire and played very well in the third to win the match. It's what we call "weathering the storm". Sometimes a match just isn't going your way, whether it's the weather, or your opponent playing well, or you're just flat and can't get anything going. If you can hang in there and weather the storm, anything can happen. True champions find a way to win in the most adverse conditions. That's what Phil is....a true champion.
Finals tomorrow afternoon.....stayed tuned!!
