Phil and I both felt ready to play today. Our spirits were high and we had a great warm up. Unfortunately today was just not our day to win. Brent and Mai played very well. We lost the first set 6-3, and knew we weren't out of the match. We scratched and clawed our way through the second set and were able to win it 6-4. We never seemed to be able to get the momentum to stay in our favor. When we split we thought we were back on even ground. They started the third set with Brent holding. Phil had a tough service game where we had multiple adds to hold, but just couldn't do it. Before we knew it we were down 0-5, way too quickly. Phil held for 1-5, then Mai served out the match for the win. To their credit, they did everything well...served well, returned well, and played the big points aggressively. Today was their day.
As we've had time to reflect on our disappointing loss, we've come up with lots we can work on. For our first tournament together we did well. We can play better and we will. We've appreciated everyone's support and comments. We're looking forward to getting back home and getting back into our routine. Life in Palm Springs is wonderful, but it's time to get back to the real world! Phil and I will continue to work hard and be back better than ever!
Phil's next event is April 9-15 back here Palm Springs for his 60 Hard Court Nationals. I'll be blogging and posting his results.
