Now that I'm recovering, resting up and gaining strength each day, it's time to get Phil taken care of.
He had a successful appointment with Dr. Ostrander at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze. We both were holding out a small chance that surgery could be avoided, but we really knew in our heart of hearts that surgery was the only option. After Dr. Ostrander did a physical examination, read the MRI and talked to Phil about what he does and the level of tennis that he plays, he confirmed that surgery was necessary for Phil to make a full recovery. He said the procedure itself is fairly routine, and done arthroscopically, but the rehab and recovery time is the killer. Phil had resigned himself for the news, so he wasn't taken aback by the fact that he'll be six to nine months from playing again. That's not to say he won't be lightly hitting ground strokes before then, but for sure the serving and hitting overheads will take a while. Phil has avowed to approach this like he would a big tournament. The physical therapy begins on Monday, three days after surgery. He has some tough days ahead of him, especially the first couple of weeks post surgery, but he will be diligent in doing his therapy and do whatever it takes to expedite his recovery. We have the recliner all ready for him to sleep and rest in. Good thing Wimbledon is on this next week......I'll keep everyone posted on how the surgery goes.
Now that we have a plan for Phil and know what his recovery will consist of, I will start my comeback. It's been about a year that I haven't felt great or been able to play with any consistency. My goal is to play the clay court nationals in October in West Palm Beach. There are also some side trips that Phil and I would like to take in the coming months as well. The biggest being to Hawaii, possibly in December. I'm signing up for hula lessons tomorrow.

I had figured that Phil's exam would confirm shoulder surgery. Phil I am really sorry you have to go through this , but know you will be patient and diligent during your recovery. You and Myke are going to be some team when you're both back to good health. I have faith that it is going to happen. Love you both, Tillie
