One Day Closer

We've been home from Gulf Breeze, after Phil's surgery, for about 24 hours. The surgery took a couple of hours. When Dr. Ostrander came out to let me know he was done, his one defining comment was, "it was a big tear". The blessing is that he's on the other side, having finally had the surgery. He (we) have been prepared for the post-op pain, and so far it's been manageable. The nerve block administered pre surgery was still in effect for the drive home, and lasted through the night and until mid day today. We upped the catheter inserted numbing pump as recommended by the nurses and gave him his first pain pill. Our goal is stay one step ahead of the pain, if possible. I'm really proud of Phil and how he is handling these unchartered waters. In over 50 years of playing his only maladies have been a couple of bouts with tennis elbow and a minor arthroscopic knee surgery. As I've said many times before, he knows he's got a tough road of recovery to face, but attitude is everything, and he definitely has the right attitude. Physical therapy starts Monday. I'm sure at this phase it will be minimal therapy, but every day from here on out puts him one day closer to being back on the court. If you hear a primal scream around11:00 on Monday, you'll know that Phil is at P.T.

I am so happy that Phil's surgery is behind him. Now for the grueling recovery. I know he will do exactly what the surgeon tells hime to do and will improve as speedilly as possible. Be patient! I feel the two of you are now headed in the right direction. Love you, Tillie
