Driving Home a Winner

It's no surprise that Phil and Larry won the finals today easily, 6-1, 6-1. It would be a hard search to find a team that could hang in there with them. Phil can set up the point with low returns and precise volleys and Larry can take over the net with his reach and power. Phil and Chip Thomas are driving back together and should be home tonight around 9:30. It was a successful tournament for all the guys that went from this area. Besides Phil's results, Chip lost in the finals of the 55 doubles, and Evert had a spectacular showing in the 65's. He upset the #4 seed in the quarters, before losing to Hugh Thompson in the semis. Then today Evert beat the #3 seed in the playoff for three and four. Nobody works harder than Evert, and it's great to see hard work payoff. I have to give Phil a little credit for Evert's results. Evert and Phil have been working together for the past nine months or so, and Phil has Evert believing that he can compete with the best. This was a break through tournament for Evert and no one deserves it more. Congrats to all the guys that played and competed!

I'm starting to get the bug again to play and I'm looking forward to getting back on the court. Phil will be happy to be home and we'll enjoy a relaxing Super Bowl Sunday. Phil's next tournament will be in St. Petersberg in early March.
