Phil will the be first to say if plays well or not. In fact, I think he is unusually hard on himself sometimes. When he called today after his match to say he lost 6-3, 6-2, but still felt pretty good about how he played, I knew it had to have been a great match. Even though he had just lost, there was a sound of excitement in his voice. Not excitement about his result, but more about the fact that he is walking away from this match knowing exactly what he needs to work on to improve the results on his next meeting with Larry. Phil and Larry are among the top players in their age group and will meet again this year and many more times in the years to come. We have both said that the workouts and training is half the fun of doing what we do!
Phil and Larry won their semifinal doubles match and play the finals at noon tomorrow. They make such a strong team, I don't think they should have much trouble in the finals, but you never know. Phil will leave to drive home right after the match, and I'm very excited about that! We're both looking forward to Sunday, and enjoying a nice quiet, relaxing day together. In the mean time I have my sweet angel Lil' Bit keeping me company.
