Double Gold!

I'm just worn out....even though Phil played the matches, it's been an exhausting week for me. Today especially. Phil called me right before he went on for his final at 11:30 our time. About 25 minutes later, Ann Schwartz texted me that Phil lost the first set 6-1. I wasn't worried at all. I know he can be a slow starter and he was just getting his mojo going. She kept me posted throughout the second set and when he was up a break 5-3, I felt sure he would not only win the set, but the match. He won the second set 6-3. Phil broke early in third only to be broken back. He then broke and held to go up 5-3. Andrew held for 4-5. Phil, serving for the match, said he then served the best game he's served all tournament, and held at love to win the match! Between texts I was nervously pacing around the pro shop, inside and out. When I got the word on my screen "Phil won!" I just broke down in tears of joy. I know I'm a sentimental baby, but I also know all the hard work that has gone into preparing for this past week, and I just couldn't be happier for him.

Phil and Tom were able to catch an earlier flight back to Atlanta tonight. Hopefully he'll be able to get a couple of days rest before getting ready for play on Monday. We both wish he were coming home now, but it just made more sense for him to stay on in Atlanta. Besides, originally I was supposed to be in California playing my hard court nationals. I'll be driving to Atlanta early next week to watch him play and then we'll be return home together...perhaps with more gold?

I'll post again once Atlanta starts up. I'll also post links to the draws when they are released...probably by Thursday or Friday...check back for up dates!

an update on my heel....
since the cortisone injection didn't seem to make much of a difference, Dr. Donchey has decided to put me in boot, to take all the pressure off my heel. He just wants to calm the inflammation and try to reduce the pain on impact. I'll probably be in it for at least two weeks, and he may still inject it again. I've been able to ride my bike with no pain so I'll continue to do that for my cardio workouts since I'll be off the court for a while. I can still work out with Geoff to keep my fitness level up too. Hopefully this plan of attack will work and I'll be back on the court again soon.
