One More Day

I'm sitting court side, in the warm sun...the best day we've had this week. I played my consolation semis this morning at 9:00. Fran left yesterday for home, so Phil warmed me up for the first time this week. Keeping with the routine of hitting around 7:30 on the same back courts that Fran and I would hit on. I wasn't feeling too well when I woke up this morning...a little sluggish, almost feverish. I can't tell if it's just fatigue from the end of a long week, or the start of a bug. I knew my match would be tough, and I really wanted to play. While hitting with Phil, I just told myself to play slow and methodical through the match and just see what happens. I got off to a strong start. My serve felt good for the first time all week, my strokes felt solid for the first time this week...something was clicking. I knew Anna was a tough player and it'd be hard to get in a rhythm with her style of play. My deep, loopy balls were hard for her to do much with. I was able to get her going backwards for balls, then sneak in to put it away. Just like I've been working on. I played well and won 6-0, 6-1.

Now I play the finals of the consolations against Shelly Works. Shelly is a super player from San Antonio. We should have a really good match. She's one of the nicest, most friendliest players around. I'm looking forward to our match. We play at 9:00 then Phil and I will hit the road after we're done. It's been a wonderful week of tennis, friendships and camaraderie. Already looking forward to the next event!
