The Beginning

Fran and I were both pretty tired last night from a long day of travel.  We had an early dinner, found our place to stay (more about that later), got settled in and went to bed. The time change is always tough the first day or two.

We both woke up fairly early.

This is our view each day, out our back door:
Wow

Then we hit at La Quinta:
Wow again

And when I opened a can of balls that I randomly threw in my racquet bag while packing:
Woooo Pig Sooie!

The rest of the day we’ve spent running around to the grocery store for a few necessities and chasing down a 1/2 gallon cheap water jug to use during our matches. Finally found them on our 6th try, thanks to Dicks Sporting Goods, and no thanks to Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and Ralph’s.

We hit twice today and I’m happy to report I have not felt my elbow or shoulder. It’s nice to be on a hard court with true clean bounces. I would say the pace of the courts is a medium pace...not too slick or fast.

I finally looked at the draw sheet at the courts today. I actually play on Wednesday, not tomorrow. That gives me another day to hit and get more acclimated. I am not familiar with my opponent, who is from Oregon. Doubles is scheduled still for Thursday. It’s been unusually overcast since we arrived. Ok by me.

Thanks to generous family, we have a beyond beautiful place to stay, I’m with a good friend playing tennis, in a beautiful part of the country.

What a wonderful beginning.
