Going for the Doubles

When I hadn’t heard from Phil at about the 3 hour mark this morning I thought he either got a late start or he was in a dog fight. Then the phone rang...

He lost in three sets.....7-6 in the third.  He played the type of player that is a nightmare to play. Soft hitter, no weapons, and bunts everything back. He easily won the first set, then slowly the momentum changed and lost the second set.  He came back from being down in the third, but ended up losing in a breaker. I know he was beyond disappointed about his loss. He has had a rough year in singles, losing to players he has beaten easily in the past. I know he still has a lot of singles success to conquer. Right now he’s in a singles slump. So What? Life goes on and it gives him something to work on. He’ll be back with vengeance. I am proud of his tenacity.

Phil regrouped for his doubles later this afternoon. He and Tom won easily 6-0,6-2. So they move on to the semis now. They play a team that has had success in the past, but Phil and Tom have beaten them before. There are no sure wins, so the guys will have to play well to move on.

Tomorrow’s weather forecast is dismal. We’ll just wake up and see what the day brings.
