Today did not quite go the way Phil wanted it to. He knew Fernando was a great player. All Phil was asking of himself was to play well and whatever happened happened. Unfortunately Phil did not play well which of course ended in a not so good result.
I hear and feel the frustration Phil is voicing. He feels that this year he has only played a handful of really good matches. He doesn’t feel that his body is responding on the court as it should, or used to. I have no answers, but we both know “it’s” there. All good players in their career go through downward spirals for whatever reason. He’ll work through this and come out stronger on the other side. We love and support each other through it all!
Now he focuses on the doubles with Tom. Phil went back out on the practice court right after his loss today. I love that! He needed more time on the grass, and he needed to show himself that he can still play. Which we all know he can.
We only look forward from here.
