Like the Finals

Today’s semis doubles match was like a finals. The team they played was very good and had a finals feel to it.  First Tom had to play Gentil in singles, the player who beat Phil first round.  Tom lost to Fernando in straight sets.

I’m sure Phil has replayed his singles over and over during the past few days. Now he was getting a shot to play Fernando and his partner in doubles.  I knew he’d have fire in his belly over this one.  Sure enough, I got the call from Phil that he and Tom won 6-2, 6-4. He said that doubles match was one of the best matches he’s ever played. Whoa. Phil doesn’t usually tout himself that much unless he really means it. I was so happy and proud for him. After taking such a loss early in the singles, he needed to bounce back with a strong win and play well doing it.

Doubles final is tomorrow at 1:30. They play a good team (at this stage they are all good!) but not the caliber of the players today. That doesn’t mean anything. They must go out and take care of business. Knowing Phil and Tom’s style....I’m betting the farm on them again.  I so wish I was there to watch!

You better believe I’ll be waiting by the phone from about 2:30 on for “the call”!!
