Made it Through

Tom played his singles match this morning at nine.  He was playing against one of the doubles opponents he and Phil would play later.  Tom won the first set and was down 5-3 in the second and retired. Not due to injury but because he wanted to save himself for doubles.  That is a concept I don’t particularly understand because that doesn’t happen much in women’s tennis.  But Tom knows what he is doing and it’s not the first time either he or Phil has done it.

Today I read my book while matches were being played. Then I warmed Phil up for the doubles.  I was calm, cool and collected watching as they went up quickly 5-2. Two breaks and a tiebreaker later they lost the set 7-6.
WAIT.
WHAT?
WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
THEY WERE JUST UP TWO BREAKS!

My BPM on my Fitbit started rising as I could see Phil getting tighter and tighter.  The opposing team was on fire. I try my best to not get so caught up in the score. But I live and breath every single point.  I know it worries Phil for me to get that way. Once the second set started and they got out to a quick 5-0 lead I started breathing again. They won the second 6-1 then ran off the third 6-0. The hiccup in the first was tough to watch, but it ended well.

So tomorrow there is only doubles for the guys to play. We can take our time getting to the courts. They play two lefties from Texas, who are both in the semis of the singles, but not against each other. We hope they both players have long drawn out matches before having to come back and play the
doubles!

Phil and Tom played on the first court, so I wasn’t forced to view from behind the court or look across 5 other courts to see them play. Hopefully I’ll be able to have a ringside seat again tomorrow!

Another highlight of the day was that 5 of our Tarpon Cove members who live in the Minneapolis area come to watch the doubles match. It was great to see them! We are always so appreciative of the support we get from our club members whether it is at home or on the road.  Thanks to Dan and Alice Anderson, Carmen and Terry Lee, and Paul Egge!
