Champps Instead

There was no doubt that Phil and Tom were prepared for their final match yesterday against Fred and Geoff.  What they weren’t prepared for was Fred and Geoff to come out swinging for the fences and not miss.  Oh my gosh. They seriously couldn’t miss. No game plan could have negated what these guys were doing.  Phil and Tom lost the first set 6-2.

As the match went on, Fred and Geoff picked up even more steam.  No one watching could believe it.   Phil and Tom did all in their power to try to turn the tide. Nothing seemed to work. Some days it just happens. The second set went quickly 6-1.

They were shell shocked. They had played two previous really tough 3 set matches to get to the finals. A lot of good tennis was played throughout the week. I really enjoyed being with the guys and watching everyone play, and having the opportunity to warm up some of the guys too.

We are at the airport, heading home.  I know Ellie is eager to see us, as we are her! Phil and Tom will meet up again in a couple of weeks to play the National Grass courts in Rumson, New Jersey.  I will be hanging back and start to get ready for my hard court nationals in early October.

We settled on eating at Champps yesterday after the match instead of Popeyes as promised to Tom. The burgers were great and we reminisced about the week.

Below are some pictures from yesterday. Thanks again to the Tarpon Cove members who came to support Phil this week.
