Two Matches in One Day

Two matches in one day. Singles and doubles. It’s been a while since Phil has done both.  Luckily the weather is low humidity, albeit very warm.  Nothing compared to Naples weather that he has been training in, which has been very high humidity.

I knew todays singles would be a tough one and it was.  Phil was able to win the first two games of the match then proceeded to lose the next three games. Oh boy. Through the rest of the set there were more holds and breaks until it came to a tiebreaker. Phil squeaked it out 7-5 to take the first set. Whew. Onto the second set.

Phil got up an early break again, only to get broken back. He was able to break serve again to go up 4-3. I was hoping for a hold...but no, not so fast. Back to 4-4. Broke again, serving for the match at 5-4 with a match point. Not so fast. Points played, serves broken turns into another tiebreaker.  Phil fights hard to get ahead 6-3 and I’m starting to breath easier. Not so fast. I was so relieved, and none more than Phil, when his opponent netted a forehand. I’m exhausted.

Phil and Tom played doubles later this afternoon. They started out a little flat, but were able to win 7-6,6-2.  Way too many tiebreakers for me today!

It’s been a fun day of spectating and hanging around the tournament scene. I hope to be playing some of my events again later this year.

Tomorrow we get to do it all again.  Two matches in one day.  Go Philly!
