Day of Ups and Downs

Phil was going to need his “A” game today to do well in singles.  Unfortunately he just did not have what he needed. Dave is a very good player who is very mobile and steady.  Phil’s legs were done by about the third game. Yesterday was a great win, but now he has to be able to string multiple days of wins together. And he will. This all a process, but part of the challenge is meeting each small goal. And so far he has. So proud of him!

With singles done, it was time to focus on doubles.  They played a team that had not played together before, but individually are good players. After being down 4-1 the first set, they fought back to win the set in a tiebreaker.  Down again in the second set, Phil and Tom evened the score, only to lose it 6-4.  A strong start to the third set put them up two breaks, 4-0.  Both Phil and Tom were playing much better by now.  They closed out the set and match by winning 6-3 in the third. Combined they played well enough to win. They each had moments of greatness, but as a team they can and will play so much better.

Only having doubles left to play now, I think Phil will be fresher on the court. I’m loving hanging out and watching all the guys play.  The weather continues to be spectacular and makes being outside so nice.

I miss home and I miss Ellie. Just a few more days!
