We watched both the 65’s and 70’s singles finals. My wish was granted that Lenny ( one of their opponents) would have a long three setter. He lost in the singles final, so there was hope that he would be tired from that match.
The doubles final started around 1:00. I found my own little perfect spot to watch today. There were early breaks back and forth today with some well played points. Tom and Phil hung into the first set but ended up losing it 6-3. Ughh. I stayed calm and collected because I could feel them getting some of the momentum back in the second. Again, tough points were played with a lot of quick volley exchanges. I could sense a third set coming, but I could also sense my nerves were getting ready to get the best of me. I had already decided that if they split I was going to have a beer. And I don’t even drink. It just sounded good. And calming. I headed straight to the bar after they broke Paul’s serve to win the set.

At 1-1 in the third Phil got broken. There was an opportunity to break back after a long game with 3 breakpoints that couldn’t be converted. It was playing catch up from there on out. Lenny and Paul played well til the end and won the finals 6-2 in the third. My beer certainly helped me with staying more relaxed. I felt bad for Tom and Phil because it was only a few points that really mad a difference in momentum.
My assessment of this weeks tennis from Phil is that he is on the right track, and doing so well for just getting back on the singles scene. There are things to work on and before his next event in August he’ll be ready! Part of the fun is the preparation.
We’ve had a great 10 days a way between the wedding and the tournament. Now it’s time to get back home to Ellie. We can’t wait to see our angel!
