Phil's comeback journey for singles in a national tournament ended today with a loss to a good lefty player. I was sorry he lost but I didn't hear that extreme disappointment in his voice when he called. That tells me that he realizes this singles comeback is a journey. He has trained hard and will continue to do so. He felt like he was out of rhythm on his serve, plus he felt like his opponent played very well. There are two more national tournaments coming up and he'll do just fine in singles.
Later this afternoon Phil called with the good news that he and Brian won their semifinal doubles match. They played a feisty team and according to Phil, the match was a nail biter. Probably best I wasn't there to see it in person! They were up a couple of breaks in the first set, lost their lead than won the set in a close tiebreaker. Phil and Brian were able to ride the momentum into the second set and won it 6-2. The cheering squad from Tarpon Cove continues to bring Phil good luck. Finals are tomorrow!
Phil's original return flight is scheduled for Monday. Since his finals are scheduled for tomorrow, I'll be able to change his flight to return on Sunday instead....Yea!
Today he was one for two in matches. Tomorrow, with a win, he'll be a golden one for one.
