As Usual

It can be a little unnerving not knowing who your first round opponent is.  I always have to figure that for as many years as Phil has played tennis, and for all the people he has met in his lifetime of playing tennis, he usually knows who everyone is.  Sometimes we can take an unknown player too lightly. Not today. Phil pretty much took care of business winning 6-1, 6-0 against an opponent he was not familiar with, from California.  He said it took him a short time to adjust to the indoor lighting, but once that was done, he relaxed into the match and played well.

Since he and Brian are not playing a tournament doubles match today, they set up a practice match.  It will give him a little more playing time on the court, and he and Brian some time on the court together.

The most impressive part of the day was that about 8-10 of our members who live in the Twin Cities area came out to watch Phil play his first round!  All of our members are very supportive in what we do, and we so appreciate the extra effort they make to watch him play in such a big event....especially when I can't be there.  Ellie and I, plus our club members in Naples, are cheering from afar!

Phil will play only doubles tomorrow, then singles again on Thursday...as usual.
