Phil knew today's match was going to be tough one. Sometimes early round matches are "gimmies" but not this one. Jim Rambou had played on a World Cup team with Phil a few years ago, so he's a player. His partner was the unknown factor.
Phil and Tony were able to work out strategies to keep Jim out of the point as much as possible. They played "I" formation on their serves to keep Jim from taking over the net too much. The first set was tight with breaks back and forth on serve. Phil and Tony were finally able to get a break to win the first set 6-3. They took a 3-0 lead in the second set, and then won the set 6-2 to win the match.
It was a relief for Phil to get through this match. The remaining matches will still be tough bit it's good to get tested early.
Two down and three to go.
