We went to dinner a little later than usual for us, and by time we got home it was too late for me, and...I forgot. So here's the the update from yesterday...
Phil and Tom played a tough team from Atlanta, John Callen and Danny Carlsen. John and Danny came out swinging. Danny hung tight on top of the net and was picking balls off left and right, and not missing. There were some breaks early on from both sides and some great volley exchanges. The first set came down to a tiebreaker, which Phil and Tom were down 2-4. At this point my insides were churning. Fortunately they played a couple of great points and won the breaker 7-4. Whew!
Phil and Tom were able to ride an early break in the second set through the end of the match. Phil served the match out to win 6-4. I have to admit that I did get a little "worked up" watching Phil play, even though I promised myself I wouldn't. I don't show it on the outside but on the inside I live and breathe every point. I have to figure out how to get over that!
My good friend, college roommate and teammate from Alabama, Bari Blake, came over and spent the afternoon with me at the club. What a treat! We had a great time chatting and catching up. I think having her here helped to keep me at ease, some.
So today is the finals for Phil and Tom. They play a very good team in Marty Pearson and Roger Pierce. It will be a dog fight. They played this team in the final last year, but rain stopped the match with Phil and Tom up 7-5, 2-1. It was recorded as DNF, (did not finish). Today they will play and finish.
I'll report from the airport on how it goes. It's a beautiful day today, so I'm going to relax and enjoy the day...no nerves...I hope!
