Back At It

Phil left bright and early (if you can call a 3:00 am wake up call bright) this morning for Palm Springs.  I normally like to take Phil to the airport to send him off, but when good friend and club member Mike Shields sincerely offered to take Phil,  I graciously obliged.

The three hour time difference can make communicating a little more difficult, but we'll manage. Phil called an hour ago to say that he had safely made it, and had hooked up with doubles partner Marty Pearson at the airport. They will be staying right on the property at Mission Hills, in a convenient, (and hopefully nice) condo found on VRBO.  Through the years Phil has had success with his play in various age groups at Mission Hills. The combination of playing on hard courts and playing in a familiar environment works in his favor. Hopefully this week will be no different.

Phil and Marty are seeded second behind Tom Smith and Tony Dawson. There are plenty strong teams on both sides of the draw before either team would meet each other.  Both Phil and Marty are only playing doubles, while most of the other teams are playing singles and doubles. They should be fresh and ready for each match. Their first match is scheduled for Tuesday.

I will be holding the fort down at work. Phil is insistent that I teach an abbreviated schedule when he is away. I feel like I could do more, but I do have to admit that it is nice to know that I get a reprieve this week. We have been so incredibly busy, but the end is in sight. I will take this week to catch up on everything that go ignored during season.

I'll post Phil's first round results on Tuesday.
