About ten days before Phil was leaving for New Orleans he started having some tennis elbow issues, more of a golfer's elbow...pain on the underside. He thought ice and Aleve would take care of it, and when it didn't, he had a cortisone injection. Surely that would knock out the inflammation. No such luck.
He and Paul played their first doubles match this afternoon and they won easily 6-2, 6-2. I could hear the concern and disappointment in his voice. Knowing that as the matches get tougher, with harder hit balls, his arm won't hold up. Rather than risk further injury, I think he should pull out of the tournament. Sometimes our ego gets in the way and makes it difficult for us to make sensible decisions. Once he has time to think about it tonight, he may be on his way back home tomorrow. If not, they will play again tomorrow afternoon.
SIDE NOTE....
My MRI showed there was still a fair amount of blood on my brain, not uncommon for the large bleed that I had. I am still in the recovery stages, so no exertion exercise (tennis). I have a follow up MRI in a little over 3 weeks to see how it is progressing. Once the blood is all resorbed, then a lifetime of being on a blood thinner comes next. My neurologist feels strongly this was an afib event and should be treated as such. He reiterated how extremely fortunate I am that this was not a catastrophic stroke. I am thankful for everyone's healing thoughts and prayers!😇
