Then There Were Two

The singles draw that started with 73 players is now down to two...Phil and Tony Dawson. Phil won his semis today against Geoff 7-5, 6-2. He said he played the best he has played in quite some time. I was overjoyed when he called to tell me he won! I know how hard he's worked and the frustration he's had with his game the past year. I feel like he is poised for it to all come together with this tournament. I think my pride comes from his positive energy and efforts with winning being the by product of both.

The doubles final was played this afternoon. Phil and Geoff lost to Tony Dawson and Tom Smith 6-3, 6-2. Phil sounded okay with the loss, and thought he played well. Tony and Tom are a very good team and have had success. This was Phil and Geoff's first national final as a team...there will be more to come.

Now Phil has to turn his attention to his singles final tomorrow. He and Tony are 1-1 in singles matches against each other in the past 6 months. Phil is playing his best tennis on a surface he loves and in a comfortable environment. I like his chances.
