Now there are four players left in the singles and two doubles teams remaining, and yes, Phil is in both.
He won his singles in three sets. He lost the first set 6-2, then won the second set 7-5. Phil was serving at 2-1 and his opponent starting cramping and couldn't continue, so Phil won. By the fifth day of two matches a day on hard courts, everyone starts to feel the effects. Part of the formula to continuing on is survival of the fittest! Phil plays his doubles partner, Geoff, in the semifinals tomorrow. They played earlier this year on clay, with Geoff winning. Tomorrow is a new day.
I nervously waited for Phil's second call to let me know his doubles result. He finally called about half an hour ago to say they won 6-4, 6-4. Tomorrow after Geoff and Phil battle it out on the singles court, they'll team up for the doubles final.
Survival of the fittest!
