We weren't even sure if we'd get today's matches in or not. Winds and rains from Hurricane Sandy threatened all day. We got our singles in, with a couple of rain delays. In usual fashion, I started slow, and lost the first set 6-4. The winds were brutal....very gusty and strong. Midway through the second set, we had a short rain delay. I played better than yesterday, but still struggled. I was able to pull out the second set 6-4. Then a longer delay came when I was up 2-0 in the third, and serving at 30-40. About an hour later we resumed play on a different court. I fought hard, and was able to hold serve to go up 5-4. I quickly went down 40-love on her serve. A few good shots and some luck I got it back to deuce, and won the next two points to win the match. Yea! I do feel better about how I played, but still not feeling great about my tennis.
By the time I showered and ate a bite to get ready for doubles, the rains came. Play was canceled for the day. Tomorrow looks very ominous...heavy rains and winds 40-60 mph. Maybe a good day for a massage. I play the number two seed, Vicki Bulholtz from Texas. I'm looking forward to a good match.
