Today was a fun day. After a quick breakfast at the hotel, we went to Cherokee Town and Country Club, which is the host club of the Atlanta Senior Invitational..aka ASI. It is a beautiful club, landscaped magnificently. Phil checked in, got his player packet and we ventured on to Bitsy Grant Tennis Center where we hooked up with Armistead Neely. We had a great 2 on 1 workout for a couple of hours. I'm so grateful the guys let me hit in with them. I really love it. I have memories of playing a junior tournament at Bitsy Grant about 38 years ago. Wow...where does the time go?! We hung around, watched some tournament matches then Phil and Tom played a practice match with Armi and his partner Brian Cheney.
It's fun to be in "Phil's world" of tournament tennis. Just as he has accompanied me to some of my events and gotten to know all the women from different age groups, I'm getting to know more and more of the guys. It's no surprise that Phil knows everyone, and they all love him. Combining our worlds has given me more friends and more contacts in tennis than I could have ever imagined.
Phil plays his first round tomorrow morning at Bitsy Grant. He and Tom have a bye in doubles and don't play until Friday. Evert Jonsson won his first round today. Alex Deeb plays tomorrow. I'll warm Phil up in the morning, then pull out my crossword and settle in.
