Going for the Bronze

Following our usual routine....Fran and I warmed up early this morning. She had her singles semis to play before our doubles. Fran played great and won against Jenny Klitch. In the other semis Vesna defeated Susan in straight sets. After lunch, Phil and I got another hit in to get me ready to play the doubles. I knew Susan and Vesna would be a strong, tough team. They're both big hitters with tons of power. We started out playing well and we were up a break early. They broke back and went on to take the first set 6-4. We felt like we were in the match all the way to the end. We had great points, but they were just blowing balls by us. We lost 6-3 in the second. I was happy with my serving and first volleys...I need to work on helping more when my partner is serving. There's so much I don't do well in doubles, but know I can work on improving my weaknesses and learn how to be a better doubles player.
I play my quarterfinal consolation singles tomorrow morning at 9:30 against Erika Smith. Erika and Mary are in the finals of the doubles against Vesna and Susan. They won a long three setter against Anna Zimmerman and Ann Whiney. Fran plays her singles final against Vesna at 10:30, then we play our playoff for third and fourth around 2:00.
Looking forward to another fun filled day of tennis in Houston
