Breezy Day for Tennis

I met Fran at the courts this morning around 7:15 after dropping Phil off at the indoor club we hit at yesterday. He was working out with a group of guys that do a group hit a couple of days a week. It was so nice early on...no wind, cool temps and clear skies. As the morning went on the winds picked up and the temperatures stayed cool. By the time I picked up Phil and got back to the courts, the winds were gusting up to 20 mph. With my match being at 11:00, there was a definite side advantage and disadvantage with the wind and sun. My opponent was a very nice player from Washington state, Ann Whitney. She has had some success in the 40's nationals and I knew it was going to be tough. I had first match jitters, as I always do, but was glad I was going to have a good match to start the tournament. I worked through my nerves and figured out the wind to win 6-3, 6-2. As I was playing, I didn't feel as though I was striking the ball cleanly, and felt a little out of sorts. I was happy to pull out a victory, as the match was closer than the score indicates.
Fran and I played our first doubles match this afternoon and won easily 6-0, 6-0. We played well together and I'm really looking forward to our partnership getting stronger and stronger. She's very easy to play with and be with on the court.
Tomorrow I have a tough opponent in Susan Love. She's a strong, aggressive player and I will have to play smart and confident. Having the opportunity to play all these great players is so much fun. I'm feeling no pressure and enjoying the process of playing each match.
